AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF INITIAL RECOVERY IN SLIDING WEAR USING A SCUFFING AND FOUR-BALL MACHINE

Sliding wear behaviour has been studied, commencing from mild wear conditions, through initial scuffing, to recovery. The results clearly distinguish the recovery of wear rate from that of friction.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:

Sliding wear behaviour has been studied, commencing from mild wear conditions, through initial scuffing, to recovery. The results clearly distinguish the recovery of wear rate from that of friction. This has been established by data collection at specific time intervals and analysis of friction, wear rate, wear surface hardness and roughness, contact temperature, average contact pressure and wear surface and particle characterization. The results are discussed in terms of the regimes of lubrication and the associated friction and wear transition behaviour in which the cont~bution of wear debris analysis is evaluated.
